KISS YOUR TITLE STAKES/COX PLATE/JUST A TROT FUTURITY
The big guns were rolling out. There was no mistaking the excitement quivering in Meredith Mahon's chest. The last month had been good for her. Fleet Street had given a solid account of himself and had risen in the ranks. Adrasteia was hopefully about to do the same. The chestnut daughter of Radiance and Admiral's Holiday had a spectacular pedigree, a strong personality and a passion for running. She was not quite good enough to campaign solely in HOTYs like Incognito, the black son of True Enough and The Devil's Touch who was a relative and prowled at her side like a wraith, but she was good enough to go postward in the Just A Trot Futurity. Undercards strengthened her, and her performances in HOTYs had been brilliant. That was all Meredith needed to know they were in with a chance. The slight smile on Kylie's face answered for all that she thought her horse was a good one. Cog was one win off of grade three already, and all six of his wins were HOTY races. He was a division leader by that account. The black colt preferred to go unnoticed despite his fame, but he emerged from his shadowy world in the stretch to nab the win he so craved, every time he could.
The two older horses accompanying the juveniles today seemed disdainful. Battle Wings, cold as always, was perfectly poised with Krystal Yhate up. She was facing a stiff test, as was Ed, in the Kiss Your Title Stakes. But Krystal knew her mare was capable. She was a distaff division leader, and stepping out to face the boys once more would benefit the big mare. Limited Edition, as per usual, was arrogant of his own accord and found his arrogance backed up by Valencia Andrews. His rider just couldn't stop smirking when she rode the stallion she'd bought. He was her horse, and a damn good one too. Valencia couldn't wait to swing him around for the Breeders Cup Marathon at the end of the season. TLast year's Belmont Stakes and Climax Cup winner liked his routes. But he didn't like the bay stallion that prowled at his side. Ever-nice Call Of The Wild was hitting the dirt for his workout today. It would shake him up. Christopher Black would pilot him for this workout and he found the stallion to his liking. Call was an excellent horse and people that forgot that would surely suffer for it.
No stiff workout would be required to keep these three in shape. A simple gallop with a tune up would do. Amber Black eyed her horses as they began to really gallop. Battle Wings took that lead. Limited Edition gave her a rough time, even as Adrasteia ambitiously joined her on the front end. Call and Cog shadowed them calmly, waiting for the time to come or, if it didn't, the time to give a quiet account of themselves. They were all solid movers, of course, all high class runners as they kicked off impressive fractions without even trying. Amber had bred all but one personally, and it made her feel full of pride to see her horses running so well. At the end of the workout, when her horses went ahead at near race-pace and flashed their capabilities to the world, Amber felt like cheering as they finished. But it wouldn't do to give the game away, to let the world know just how much she knew her horses would give on race day. So she smiled, pat each horse lightly on the nose as they went by under her inspection, and tried to restrain her giddy laughter. She couldn't wait for race day.
